Dear Matt-
I can’t stand hanging out with my boyfriends’ friends. Is there a benefit or should I tell him that I want us to be alone from now on.

If you want your relationship to soar, you have to be allies with your guy’s wingman. Honestly, your boyfriend’s best friend might as well be royalty. He can govern, sway or completely influence the way your boyfriend feels about you with as little as the shake o f his head or a “duuuuuuuuuuude are you kidding me?” Men rely on the opinions of their friends just as much, or more, than women.

Every time you want to physically, verbally or otherwise completely emasculate “the best friend,” stop and immediately apply the season’s hottest lipstick so you can’t speak.

•If his friends like you, they can actually be your pair of eyes when all of them are out. In short, they will make sure your Mr. Right Now behaves himself.
His friends will give him a thumbs-up when he wants to take your relationship to the next level.
•You will be elected an honorary member of the Boy’s Club. This means you may be actually asked to hang out with both of them at their ridiculous boys-only events. The benefit of this? Well, we really don’t know, but we do know you will get to spend more time with your guy.

Being my best friend’s wing (wo)man, I completely agree. Every huge decision he makes he will consult with his best friends. He won’t even value his parents opinions as much as theirs. So be friends with your boyfriend’s best friends, not too good of friends (they’re still his friends), don’t say anything negative about them, one day if it ever comes to him deciding to buy a ring… his friends will be the ones that he consults with.

So being my best friend’s wing(wo)man, I’ve seen practically all of it, especially of one who is narcissistic, a serial dater, cannot really commit as soon as he sees the slightest flaw and then hits the road, jumps the gun, and always say how he’s going to marry the next girl he dates, etc. I’m there for them when things fall apart & put it back together, and I’m the one that is going to be his substitute girl friend while he’s in between girl friends; well in the end what about me?
