Chic Mom Amy Carrara has the scoop...

If there’s ever a time in your life to make the seasonal trends your own….well, this is it!  Let’s face it, from pregnancy on, motherhood demands personal compromise like nothing else. The trick is to work the trends for maximum impact in your busy life.

So let’s take a look at what’s ahead this autumn and how you can work some of this current seasonal glam into your gorgeous everyday life.

Big Bags – Depending on the age of your child/children you may need lots of bag real estate to accommodate diapers, wipes, sippy cups, diversionary toys, etc., but not exactly a diaper bag. Maybe you’re a hot soccer/football/softball mom who has to get from work to the field with snacks, juice pouches, and your Blackberry in place.  Perhaps you’re still thinking about having kids altogether and reading this column anyway.  Well, no matter what stage you and your family are in, the big bag is an option to be hugely excited about. Try it in a metallic to go with everything in your on-the-go wardrobe. I’m already overworking mine and loving it!!

{title}Casual Flat Boots – These are fab for supermom and those of us just trying to look the part. Flat boots can be very hard workers in the fall wardrobe while also being extremely practical. Imagine yourself in a cute skirt working your flat boots as a room mom with your older child, then running after your wild toddler on the playground in the very same boots. It’s a strong and functional look. I recommend an earthy shade. You’ll find lots out there to choose from in tans, taupes, beiges, and my personal fave chocolate brown.  You can take every look up a notch with these from jeans to skirts. Definitely, these boots were made for walking and fortunately in your busy case -running.

Tunics – Whether you wear one as a top with skinny jeans, or as a dress with dark opaque tights paired with pumps or booties tunics rock!  They are also great for those of us still trying to re-work the mid-section post childbirth.

Hats & Other Headgear – These are the lazy/time-deprived chic mom’s savior, and a fab way to create some updated looks. Bad hair days simply don’t exist when you’ve got a cute cloche, headscarf, or even glitzy little headband to work into the mix. These accessories are also tres girly and just a fun way to add a more finished look to your everyday appearance.

Bling It On Shades – I love the drama of oversized sunglasses, not to mention the sun protection factor they provide, and most importantly that they hide/camouflage a multitude of sins. That would include the fact that you may not have had time to apply ANY makeup prior to the pre-school drop-off, etc.

Statement Coats – Nothing says personality quite like a coat you love. It flatters almost all body types and adds interest to even something as simply put together as narrow black pants and a black top. I’m already getting excited to trot my leopard one from last season back out again.

Cocktail Rings – Size matters all right. Think big baby – real big. These huge rings are meant to be fun and even gaudy. They can spice up any outfit with a little color and punch and make for interesting conversation pieces. They can be found in all price ranges and an endless variety of colors and styles. I love getting compliments on my new cheapie one from Nordstrom’s Juniors Department.
