Chic Mom Amy Carrara recommends a few favorite films to warm you up when it's cold outside.

It’s snowy and cold outside, unless of course you live in my dream house located next to Oprah’s property in Montecito. Oprah is such a great neighbor…bringing us roses from her fancy garden, and my kids love to play with her cute little dogs. Okay stop. This fantasy is another column all together. Back to reality-- it’s snowy and cold outside and you’ve got the fireplace going with a glass of Sonoma Cutrer in hand. A more attainable fantasy for sure.

Now what to do? How about turning to the classics? There is so much great entertainment value and style inspiration to be found on film. Case in point: one of the greatest films ever made, “Dr. Zhivago.” Could Julie Christy be more gorgeous? Could she and Omar Sharif be more tortured in love? Check out the fur-trimmed everything--sumptuous!

Next up, we’re really changing gears here from the brutal cold of a Russian winter to the beautiful climate and pill-popping of ‘60’s Los Angeles. That’s right girls…we’re talking the best movie hair ever in “Valley of the Dolls.” The makeup too is so fantastic, you’ll want to go right out and buy some She Umera false eyelashes. If you fall in love with the glam ‘60’s inspired Hollywood look you may also want to pick up Rachel Zoe’s new “Style from A- Zoe” Lots of great tips to be found in this tome from Hollywood’s numero uno stylist to the stars.

Another film classic oozing with fab style is of course “Shampoo” , starring a young rougish Warren Beatty, Julie Christie again, and Goldie Hawn.  So fun. And last but not least, my fantasy neighbor in Montecito, Oprah, got me turned on to the new translation of Anna Karinina a couple of years back. I loaned the book to my good friend who went to the library and for $1.00 rented the 2-disc Masterpiece Theater film of Tolstoy’s epic. It’s really good.

In fact, I’m late returning it.

Gotta go, Diva!

XXo,
