While the little pink ribbon remains the must-have accessory in the fight against breast cancer, dozens of other fashionable items are vying to draw attention to the cause. Everything from lip gloss and workout shorts to tennis shoes and pink camouflage tank tops have shown up on the pink carpet this October. Fashion experts say the industry is doing an exceptionally good job of making these items both charitable and fashionable.
“The industry has done a wonderful job of making many breast cancer awareness items mainstream,” says Julie Rome, founder of Wardrobe Wizards, a wardrobe consultancy and personal shopping service. “It’s not like you’re going to buy a pink ribbon pin and wear it for a week or a month. These are all items that you’ll wear all year long and hold onto for years. I think that’s important.”
