An award-winning journalist, author and expert in fashion, lifestyle and entertainment.

{title}Why She’s An “It Girl”
Zoe Alexander does it all. Her motto is: “Life is a movie. Live like a star.” Her ability to bring the celebrity lifestyle to the average person without breaking the bank has made her a highly sought after style expert and celebrity trend reporter on television and in print. Alexander was born in Los Angeles and raised in Laguna Beach, California. She was a teen actress and appeared in independent films and television commercials for McDonald’s, among others. In her late teens, she landed a job as the youngest-ever staff writer at Star Magazine where she covered Hollywood nightlife, high-profile murder cases and of course celebrity style--all while attending writing classes at UCLA.

She has been a fashion expert on WNBC’s Weekend Today in New York, a regularly featured style expert Fox’s morning show, Good Day New York, and regular commentator for WE, E! and VH-1.

In addition to her television ventures, she co-authored the book Destiny’s Style (Regan Books/HarperCollins) with celebrity stylist Tina Knowles, mother of pop diva Beyoncé Knowles.

She is currently TV Guide’s Senior Correspondent based out of L.A.

In her spare time, she sees films, shops, hangs out with her husband, Daniel and their adorable baby, Miles and hosts three-hour ladies lunches with her friends--which is how she came up with the concept for Divas Who Dine www.divaswhodine.com, a ladies luncheon/networking group for women in the media, and related fields.

What Inspires Her?
I really get inspired by people who are mavericks and free-thinkers. Basically anyone who constructively subverts the dominant paradigm is my hero. I like people who live and think outside of the box and are innovators. As a journalist, I meet a lot of famous and interesting people through my job and am not easily impressed. The ones that really stand out to me are the ones who have some crazy idea that people say could never work and they do it and improve life as we know it.  Two people who come to mind like this are Sara Blakely, the woman who invented Spanx and Bill Gates. Seriously, I and many other women I know couldn’t get through our days without Spanx and Microsoft Windows.

Her It Girl picks:
Spanx (People always say, “Gosh you lost all your baby weight so fast.” But it’s really just my Spanx holding me together and making everything look taut!)
Christian LaBoutin shoes (They make everyone who wears them look rich and sexy and what woman doesn’t want to look rich and sexy?)

Botkier Saddle Handbag (the way this purse is laid out is genius, it’s basically a filing cabinet on the inside and a hot designer purse on the outside. It’s the perfect purse for professional working women)

Purell Hand Sanitizer

Anastasia Eye Brow Stencils (I wish I could hire Anastasia to follow me around everywhere and keep my brows in check, but her brow stencils are second best),

Equinox Gym in Century City (Los Angeles). (That Equinox location has a gym with a killer upscale spa inside called Buff Spa. So when I tell my husband I’m going to the gym, he thinks I’m working out when nine times out of ten, I walk right past the gym equipment and straight to the spa for a massage and mani/pedi!),

Who does she consider an “It Girl”?
Madonna and Oprah are perennial It Girls if you ask me. Oh and I do love a well-dressed drag queen!

I totally agree. Madonna and Oprah are definitely the perennial It Girls that I have followed over the years. Way to go Zoe!
